The AKP has begun laying the groundwork for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections, with plans to formally launch its campaign on Aug. 14 — the 25th anniversary of the party’s foundation.
The party will use the occasion to unveil a new manifesto, framing the anniversary not as a ceremonial milestone but as the starting gun for its electoral push, Ekonomim daily reported, citing correspondent Besti Karalar.
As part of the preparations, a strategy team is mapping out a new electoral roadmap. Meeting formats have also changed: rather than convening in large MP groups, ministers will now meet with lawmakers on a provincial basis.
Treasury Minister Mehmet Şimşek is among those holding weekly meetings with MPs, rotating through a different province each time.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reportedly told ministers to prioritize completing unfinished investments around the country, signalling that urgent service demands should not be postponed on austerity grounds. Hospitals and roads top the list of stalled projects flagged by both MPs and party organizations. The meetings also cover broader topics including recent economic developments, structural reforms and the party's long-term vision.
