Bilal Erdoğan, son of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and chair of the İlim Yayma Foundation, visited Syria on May 14 alongside a senior AKP delegation that included Deputy Chair and Head of Foreign Relations Zafer Sırakaya, parliamentary group deputy chair Abdulhamit Gül, and Gaziantep Mayor Fatma Şahin.
Turkey's Ambassador to Damascus, Nuh Yılmaz, also accompanied the group.
The delegation met with Aleppo Governor Azzam Garib, who presented Bilal Erdoğan with a scale model of the Aleppo Citadel. They also visited the historic Umayyad Mosque, where officials briefed them on ongoing restoration work, and met with Aleppo's mufti, Ibrahim Shaasho.
