President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that refusing to recognize court rulings amounts to openly defying the rule of law.
In a statement following the cabinet meeting, he criticized opposition to the court appointment of an interim chair to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Directorate.
No one in Turkey is above the law, Erdoğan said, adding that it is one thing to criticize court rulings but quite another to refuse to acknowledge them.
Erdoğan said that the channels for appeal remain fully open, but that refusing to recognize court rulings amounts to defiance of the rule of law. He emphasized that the government would not tolerate such irresponsibility.
Erdoğan said he would never allow the streets to turn violent or permit the battle for power between the old and new wings of the CHP to harm the country's gains.
