President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will meet with the DEM Party’s İmralı delegation for the third time on Oct. 28, according to party officials.
The delegation will include Van MP Pervin Buldan and Şanlıurfa MP Mithat Sancar, both senior figures in the DEM Party.
The planned meeting will mark the third round of talks between the president and the delegation since the start of peace talks in October 2024. Previous meetings occurred on April 10 and July 7.
The purpose and agenda of the upcoming meeting have not yet been disclosed. However, sources within the DEM Party suggest the talks may focus on ongoing political negotiations related to the Kurdish issue and prison conditions on İmralı Island, where PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan is held.
COMMISSION PAUSES WORK
The Parliamentary Commission on National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy—tasked with addressing the Kurdish issue—has paused its activities for two weeks.
This week’s meeting was canceled, and next week’s session is also unlikely due to Republic Day celebrations marking the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Turkey on Oct. 29.
The break was attributed to the absence of senior officials scheduled to brief the commission. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defense Minister Yaşar Güler accompanied President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on his diplomatic tour of the Gulf. Meanwhile, National Intelligence Organization (MİT) President İbrahim Kalın, also expected to address the commission, is continuing his engagements related to the Gaza cease-fire process.
