The AKP and MHP are gearing up to promote the “Terror-free Turkey” initiative on the ground, while the İYİ Party prepares a counter-move.

As part of the ruling alliance’s campaign, the MHP will launch a series of regional meetings on August 9 under the banner “National Unity and Solidarity Gatherings” for a Terror-free Turkey. The meetings—framed around the theme Centennial Unity, Eternal Brotherhood—will begin in Erzurum and continue through the end of September with participation from neighboring provinces.

In parallel, the AKP will implement its own outreach program, Turkey Meetings, which has now been updated to incorporate the “Terror-free Turkey” label. Lawmakers have been assigned to provinces other than their own to gather citizen demands, suggestions, and grievances. These reports will be compiled and submitted to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

To ensure message consistency, AKP headquarters is preparing communication guidelines for MPs, including suggested language and anticipated questions.

‘WE HAVE CONCERNS, NOT DOGMAS’

Meanwhile, the İYİ Party, which has voiced firm opposition to the initiative, has launched its own field visit.

Party Chair Müsavat Dervişoğlu traveled to Diyarbakır and held closed-door meetings with the Diyarbakır Bar Association, and later met with the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DTSO), where the two sides exchanged views on the ongoing process.

Without rejecting the process outright, Dervişoğlu stated that the İYİ Party had “concerns and anxieties, not dogmas or fanaticism.” He warned that flawed beginnings would not yield sound outcomes and called for a solid and fair foundation to address what he described as “a half-century-old issue.”
