İbrahim Kalın, head of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), described the goal of a Terror-Free Turkey as a comprehensive, multi-layered and multi-phase transformation.
He said it is an original and innovative process spanning political reforms, the establishment of social peace, the dissolution of the PKK and the laying down of arms.
Kalın shared these views in an article published by Anadolu Agency titled “National Intelligence Organization Turns 99 – A Safer and Stronger Turkey in the Turkish Century”.
He said that national solidarity, brotherhood and democracy — shaped in Parliament with the backing of political parties and broad public support — made critical contributions to the process.
Kalın noted that the process strengthens the domestic front while also laying the groundwork for a new regional geopolitical landscape. He said the new era, built on the principles of a Terror-Free Turkey, brotherhood under the law, and social integration, stands as one of the most significant achievements of the Turkey Century, shaped by strategic foresight.
Referring to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Turkey Century vision, Kalın said the country has entered a new phase marked by a multidimensional and balanced foreign policy, alongside steadily advancing intelligence capabilities.
He stated that throughout 2025, MIT carried out numerous successful operations guided by a broad geographical perspective. According to Kalın, threats were neutralized before taking shape, espionage activities were thwarted, and cyberattacks were countered to safeguard citizens’ material and moral well-being.
“Our comprehensive and multidimensional fight against terrorist organizations such as ISIS, Al-Qaeda, PKK, the Gülen terror organization, and DHKP/C plays a central role in ensuring that every part of our country remains safe, secure, peaceful and prosperous,” he said.
MIT has also been working closely with relevant security units against emerging crime networks and mafia-style structures, Kalın said. It is also working to prevent corruption and criminal activity that targets young people, particularly through scientific methods and early warning systems.
Turning to Syria, Kalın said the organisation assesses developments not only through humanitarian, political and security lenses, but from a holistic perspective. He noted that the fall of Bashar al-Assad marked the beginning of a reform process toward a stable future in which Syrians govern Syria themselves.
Kalın said a free, sovereign, unified, secure, democratic and prosperous Syria would foster peace at home and contribute to stability across the region, adding that all internal and external attempts to divide the country, undermine its political unity or violate its sovereignty are destined to fail.
