Overseas shopping got more expensive after new regulations ended the customs exemption for individual purchases of less than €30.
Under a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette, goods brought into Turkey by passengers are now subject to higher taxes, with rates set at 30% for items arriving from EU countries and 60% for goods from other countries. The exemption for goods worth less than €30 has been removed.
Purchases can still be made through foreign e-commerce platforms but all orders placed on sites such as Temu, AliExpress and Amazon will be subject to customs duties.
For certain products subject to Special Consumption Tax, a 20% fixed tax will also be levied in addition to the specified rates. In calculating the tax, shipping and other expenses will be included in the product price.
