Turkey’s parliament will convene on Aug. 29 for an extraordinary session to address Israel’s offensive in Gaza and possible humanitarian aid steps.

The meeting, scheduled by Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş for 2 p.m. under Article 93 of the Constitution, follows a joint request by CHP, DEM, Yeni Yol, Saadet, TİP, EMEP and Demokrat parties, whose combined deputies meet the 200-member quorum. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to brief lawmakers.

Meanwhile, AKP’s Human Rights branch postponed a planned visit to Egypt’s Rafah crossing, citing delays from Cairo.

SUMUD FLOTILLA SET TO DEPART FOR GAZA

The “Global Sumud Flotilla,” a civilian initiative of 80 ships from 44 countries, will set sail on Sept. 1 in an attempt to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza through peaceful resistance.

Departures are planned from Spain, Tunisia and two undisclosed European ports. According to Yeni Şafak, more than 500,000 people applied to join, though about 1,000 activists, doctors, journalists and volunteers will be on board. Pro-government outlets such as Yeni Şafak and Türkiye reported they will participate in the flotilla.
