Public Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, who worked at the Istanbul Courthouse, was killed.

Kayhan was stabbed in the throat by Mustafa Can Gül at a restaurant in Ömerli, Çekmeköy, Istanbul, at around 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 3.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said that the 19-year-old suspect had been apprehended, adding that there was a prior dispute between the murder suspect and the prosecutor.

According to journalist Can Bursalı, the prosecutor was the secret owner of the restaurant and the assailant had been working there but was fired. The killer attacked the prosecutor from behind while he was sitting and slit his throat.

Other reports said, the murder suspect was fired by Kayhan due to drug addiction.

Gül was arrested by a duty magistrate’s court. He was already known to police for violence against women, stalking and violating residential privacy.

Photos later emerged showing Gül with Kayhan.
