İyi Party Chair Müsavat Dervişoğlu has said that the opposition must unite behind a joint presidential candidate to overturn the current system of government.

“The presidential government system has destroyed all supervision and control in Turkey,” he said on Sözcü TV.

According to Dervişoğlu, all current problems are the result of the deterioration of the state. If the system is not altered before the general elections, he went on, the opposition must find a means to overthrow it by banding together in rhetoric, symbolism, and action in the presidential elections.

“To eliminate the system, we must come together behind a single presidential candidate,” he stated.

Meanwhile, YRP spokesperson Suat Kılıç has suggested an alliance around a “third candidate”. He said that all parties opposed to the AKP and CHP candidacies should seek a joint presidential candidate of their own, and indicated that the YRP’s contacts with other political parties were continuing.
