EUROPEAN COMMISSION HARDENS ITS RHETORIC ON DEMOCRATIC BACKSLIDING

The European Commission has toughened its assessment of democracy in Turkey. Its annual report says the serious concerns raised in earlier years “have intensified” and the country has drifted further from EU membership standards.
