Talent manager Ayşe Barım, on trial for allegedly attempting to overthrow the government in connection with the 2013 Gezi Park protests, was briefly granted conditional release under judicial supervision—until an upper court overturned the ruling and issued a new arrest warrant just as she was about to undergo a medical procedure.
The decision for her release came during the second hearing of her trial, after her lawyers cited her brain aneurysm and heart condition.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office appealed the decision to release Barım, but it was rejected. However, the 27th High Criminal Court in Istanbul has since overturned the lower court’s ruling, ordering her re-arrest.
The next hearing is scheduled for February 11, 2026.
Actors represented by Barım’s agency—including Bergüzar Korel, Halit Ergenç, Nejat İşler, Ceyda Düvenci, Hümeyra, Dolunay Soysert, and Nehir Erdoğan—attended the hearing at Çağlayan Courthouse to show support. The presiding judge asked some of the celebrities whether Barım had instructed them to join the Gezi protests. All denied any such direction.
According to Ceylan Sever of Habertürk, Sedat Gül, the witness who filed the complaint against Barım, stated he could not recall the content of his tip-off. After the judge read the complaint aloud, Gül said he had reported Barım based on posts he saw on social media.
Barım was initially detained over allegations of monopolizing the television industry and was arrested on Jan. 28 on suspicion of being one of the organizers of the Gezi Park protests.
