Following the appointment of trustees to companies linked to Can Holding, including major media outlets, two senior figures in the ongoing investigation have been released under house arrest.
In September, authorities launched a large-scale operation into Can Holding over allegations including forming a criminal organization, money laundering and fraud. The Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) was subsequently appointed as trustee to 121 companies linked to the group, including Habertürk, Bloomberg HT and Show TV.
Kenan Tekdağ, former chairman of Can Yayın Holding, was among those detained in October. He was later arrested and, on March 31, released under house arrest with judicial control measures.
Two days later, Can Holding Chair Kemal Can — who was arrested in September — was also released under house arrest, according to media reports.
The investigation, initially launched by the Küçükçekmece prosecutor’s office and later transferred to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, has led to multiple detentions and arrests of executives linked to the group.
Separately, a detention warrant had been issued for Turgay Ciner, the former owner of Ciner Media Group, who sold the channels to Can Holding.
Later, the operations to the channel continued as its former editor-in-chief Mehmet Akif Ersoy was arrested for using drugs.
